Bio

Vivek Shanbhag writes in Kannada. He has published five short story collections, three novels and two plays. He has edited two anthologies, one of which is in English. Several of his short stories have been adapted into plays and one has been made into a film. Shanbhag was founding editor of the literary journal Deshakaala from 2005 to 2012. He was also the editor of a leading Kannada newspaper Prajavani’s literary supplement during its first year. His short stories have been translated into English and other Indian languages. His critically-acclaimed novel Ghachar Ghochar was published in India/US/UK in English translation; is now available in 16 other languages. Ghachar Ghochar was listed as one of the top ten books of 2018 by books editors of New York Times and The Guardian. It was short listed for The LA times fiction award 2018.

Shanbhag was a Honorary Fellow at the International Writing Program, Fall 2016, University of Iowa.

Shanbhag is an engineer by training. He lives in Bangalore.
